MARKed Asshole

"You are not an asshole, Mark. You are just trying so hard to be".

'The Social Network'- excellently made. After I saw this movie the pertinent question that arose in my mind was 'Was Mark Zuckerberg really an asshole ?' He probably was.
Someone rightly said "Great minds think alike". For instance, take Bill Gates. I recall reading an article on some case(similar to Mark-Winklevoss' case) of Gates years back(don't remember the details, even wikipedia didn't help). Coming back to our discussion, Mark did nothing for Harvard Connection and at the same time led the Winklevoss brothers to think that he was working on their project for that whole period. Ridiculous ! If Mark really was "the man" why didn't he refuse to work with them after he conceived the idea of 'The Facebook'. Six weeks later after agreeing to work for them, he sends an email questioning their site's functionality.Poor luck Cameron and Tyler. Next time.
And Eduardo. You conspire to make him a non-entity. One who made the initial investment, even before this New Co. was poised to be so successful.

In the end, only thing that matters to me is that Mark founded 'Facebook' and I love his website. And I don't give a hoot how he deals with people.
Though I learnt one thing from him, i.e, ....never ever to blog and drink at the same time or may be I should, who knows the next Zuckerberg could be me.....

Blog's changed title

Recently changed the title of my blog from 'My daily ramblings' to 'An IITian's daily ramblings'. It seemed to me that a 'My' in the title's somewhat ambiguous so decided to give my name, but then who's this Bidyut anyway? Nothing till now. After much deliberation I fixed upon this one, in confirmation with the URL of my blog.
Initially reluctant as we IITians have this notorious habit of making it a point to mention our college name whenever we get the chance to(sadly, I am no exception). Interestingly, it was not like this before. In fact, I was seriously contemplating NIT Trichy against IITs during admission time, but thankfully a couple of factors made me choose IITG and I am a happy man now. My personal observation is that studying in an IIT makes you think like an IITian....

my enemy has a name - procrastination

"to procrastinate:  to put off doing something, especially out of habitual carelessness or laziness." says the dictionary.
It was only recently that I discovered this English word 'procrastination'. What a beautiful name !  But don't be fooled, it hides its foulness beneath this richness of English phonetics.
I procrastinate a lot and I have paid my price for it, but the sad part of my story is that I can't stop myself from procrastinating. I procrastinated during my 10th board preparation, my JEE preparation and countless other this and that preparation. Some of them had disastrous consequences and others less so. It has now become a part of what I am, a part of my identity. "Bidyut leaves everything for the last moment" is the inside joke among my kins. But not anymore, I am soon going to transform my habits, I will soon part with my enemy.
And what's a better time to start than this new year ? So, my resolution this new year is that I'll not procrastinate........
.........Coming to think of it, may be this year is not the right time, I don't feel like doing it now...... may be next year, or the year after that or in the following years....!!!!!!

food for my ramblings

It has been a long time since I blogged; busy attending a few chores at home but mostly I was too lazy to put my bum at one place and write something meaningful. I have always wondered how authors keep on writing volumes after volumes. I guess, it comes naturally to them. Now! look at me. What's the title of my blog ? 'My daily ramblings'. What a shame ! I don't event blog once a week(though I ramble everyday).
When I set out to write this blog, I wasn't sure of what I was going to write about. But that is all good, considering that my blogs' titled 'Ramblings'. I ramble and ramble and because you have nothing else to do you go on reading this rambling.
Since, this is my first blog after returning home, let me ramble on one great bliss that you can enjoy only at home - yes! you guessed it right, It's Food. Hostel food is good but it was never enjoyable not even the special dinner on diwali eve. If I recall correctly, Tuesday dinner was always a torture - with lemon rice and paneer bhurji(hope no one's offended), also Saturdays and Sundays dosas' could be a trying period(with long queues that takes about an hour or so) and so on and so forth.
To give you a look of my idea of delicacies, follow this link and this as well. May be, we could try one of these in lieu of Tuesday's dinner, what say ? Here, you must forgive me for being a regionalist, and I will forgive you too if you tell me that your region's food is delicious in comments below. Please, do comment if you feel like adding anything. Also, I would like to draw your attention here that not only do these dishes but even the simple rice and dal made by my mother is yummyeeee.... don't you feel the same ?
Last week, I went to my native village. There with the plethora of genuine Assamese cuisines and organically farmed vegetables, it was like a foodie's heaven. Personally, I believe, the smell of burnt wood from the Jui-haals increases my appetite(ya, I know it sounds crazy). Throw to the party the festival of new crop, the no-khuwas, and you start getting mad. The weather's getting colder but my hands are warm in anticipation, let the winter come, let the magha come and let the bihu come....I am waiting for you bihu, for I am still hungry.....
